Psychology of Slots Systems

I am always interested in the psychology behind why we do things, particularly when it involves gambling, games of chance and mathematics. Below I am going to share with you some of my believes about the psychology of slots systems as well as some of my personal observations. Please understand though that I am not a psychologist and am in no way offering any type of legal, medical or other kind of advice. I suppose it would be safest to say that this page is for informational and entertainment purposes only.

Why Do People Use Slots Systems

The first question we need to look at is why do people play slots, and we will follow this up with why do people use slots systems. The main reasons we play slots generally fall into one of the following categories:

  • We play slot machines as a form of entertainment.
  • We think we can win money playing slots.
  • We know that the odds are that we will lose money playing slots but we are willing to work against the odds in the hopes that we can hit a jackpot, much like the psychology behind buying lottery tickets.
  • We are degenerate gamblers and can't help ourselves.

Looking at these reasons, if you are a degenerate gambler then it doesn't matter if you have a slots system or not. You are going to gamble no matter what and you should seek professional help before it destroys your life.

Closely following that is actually believing you can win money playing slots. Casinos live off the profit from slot machines. Yes, every other game in the casino makes money or it wouldn't be there, but the most profitable games are the slot machines. You can not be a long term winner playing slots unless you are lucky enough to hit a large progressive jackpot. And even then you probably need to quit playing slot machines as soon as you hit one to be a lifelong winner.

Playing slots for entertainment is where I hope most of you fall. We spend a great deal of money every year on entertainment from movies, to show to eating out and a host of other things. If you enjoy playing slots there is nothing wrong with spending your entertainment money playing them.

Though I hope most of you fall into the entertainment category, I am afraid that most, including me, play slots because we are willing to buck the odds and hope for a life changing win. I am not judging this nor saying it is wrong. The only concern I have with this is there is always the temptation to play beyond our means.

Slots systems help feed the false belief that we can actually beat the slot machines. This is simply not the case and it can be very dangerous. Take a minute and honestly judge why you play slot machines and why you are looking for a slots system.
